FAQs
How is Osteopathy different from Massage, Chiropractic care, or Physical therapy?
Massage primarily targets muscle tissue. Osteopathy works with muscles plus fascia, ligaments, joints, and visceral structures, with a focus on how systems interact.
Chiropractic care often uses high-velocity joint adjustments. Osteopathy uses gentle, low-force techniques aimed at improving mobility and reducing strain without manipulation.
Physical therapy emphasizes exercise-based rehabilitation. Osteopathy focuses on restoring mechanical balance to many layers of the body first, so strengthening and movement programs can be more effective.
Osteopathy address strains, shears, torsions, compressions, stressors, tensions, and pressures in the body, works well alongside these modalities and often enhances their outcomes.
Do you diagnose medical conditions?
No, I do not diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medication or replace care provided by licensed physicians or other regulated professionals. I practice as an osteopathic manual practitioner— a distinct and independent profession separate from American-style osteopathic medicine (DO).
Treatment is complementary and designed to support the body’s structure and function. If your symptoms require medical evaluation, I will refer you to an appropriate licensed provider.
What does a treatment feel like?
Techniques range from subtle, low-force interventions to more direct soft-tissue or joint-focused work. Treatment is always tailored to your body’s responses in real time. Many patients experience a sense of lightness, improved mobility, or deep relaxation during or after treatment.
Treatment is generally gentle and not painful. Some patients may experience temporary soreness as the body adjusts to new movement patterns or releases long-standing tension.
Do you treat pregnant and postpartum patients?
Absolutely! Osteopathy is well-suited for pregnancy and postpartum care, supporting the vast mechanical, pressure, postural and physiological changes that occur during this time.
Treatment is gentle, adaptive, and focused on comfort, mobility, and recovery. I specialize in perinatal care, supporting mother and baby through pre-pregnancy, TTC, pregnancy leading up to delivery, and postpartum. See the “blog” section to learn about how osteopathy can serve to enhance perinatal outcomes.
Do you work with infants and children?
Yes! Osteopathy for infants and children uses extremely gentle, age-appropriate techniques to support comfort, mobility, and developmental transitions. Treatment may help with feeding challenges, postural preferences, digestive discomfort, or strain patterns related to birth or growth.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear comfortable, flexible clothing that allows for movement. Leggings, joggers, or shorts and a comfortable top work well. Please ensure clothing is clean and free of debris as a courtesy to patients being treated after you.
If coming from work or the gym, there are extra clean clothes available to wear for treatment, just ask!
What is your cancellation policy?
To respect the time and availability of all clients, a minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required for cancellations or appointment changes. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice—or missed appointments—will be charged the full session fee.
This policy ensures that appointment times can be offered to others in need of care.
